Many of Los Tuxtlas extinct or threated orchids have found a home in one of Mexico´s most remarkable
orchidariums less than 10 miles south of Catemaco, between kilometer markers 165 and 166 towards
Acayucan.
The owner, Felipe Gabriel Ramirez, a former coffee planter, for more than 20 years has converted his love for
orchids into a paradisaical collection of almost 300 species and 4,000 examples. Completely self taught, Don
Felipe is proud to share his formidable knowledge of local species including natural propagation techniques.
Many other plants share space here, including rare anthuriums and ferns. Flowering orchids are best seen in
middle spring, although a visit any other time will be a rewarding experience.
