| March 2010. Today the first visitors arrived at the newest and most luxurious eco-lodge in Los Tuxtlas. Located on 28 hectares on the edge of the Rio Grande de Catemaco, a few miles below the Eyipantla Waterfall, the resort is an Over the last few years, a rock strewn, mainly deforested cow pasture has been transformed with 8000 trees along the contours of the land and has been declared a private nature reserve. The owner, formerly of Cancun, has introduced a concept of luxury never seen in Los Tuxtlas. 6 magnificent cottages are carefully spotted on the terrain, a superb modern kitchen caters to an attractive restaurant focused on organic meals, and an attractive pool affords great views of the river below. The resort is totally off grid, depending on solar and wind power and natural gas for its amenities. A spring provides its waters. Much of the food served is grown organically along interpretive trails leading through the property which also includes 2 fish farms. Horses are available, cows provide fresh milk and oxen are used instead of tractors to manage the heavy chores. The resort is still fresh and its 8000 new trees need another year of growth to be truly luxuriant. Security is extreme and no casual visitors are allowed. All access is by reservation for guests paying from 2000 pesos per night in the high season. |
