The "hotel" is actually a private ranch of more than 100 hectares owned by a former mayor of San Andrés Tuxtla and is now for sale. The hotel consists of a row of rooms in poor condition and a beach front restaurant with a very limited and infrequent menu. Parking for visitors is 30 pesos which is usually waived if you eat there. I am told the hotel was reconditioned Jun 08. Wishful thinking May 09! The Parador allows camping and has a website but no phone nor internet

Playa Jicacal is another of the almost unknown beaches of Los Tuxtlas, and one of my favorites, because within a short walk it offers a Tahiti like beach, and its restaurant usually stocks cold beer. The wide beach in front of the hotel lies within a shallow bay, book ended by rocky outcroppings, and most times of the year is idyllically desolate, except during short holiday periods. This is a true beachcomber paradise when walking a 6 mile isolated stretch to the beaches of La Barra. All of the beaches front onto private property and have no other public access.

access
Access is from a paved highway leaving from north Catemaco towards Montepio. A dirt road branches off towards the Gulf, at approximately KM 28. About a mile and a half downhill, after some magnificent views, you will see the gate leading to Parador Icacos. Pirata, (pickups used as communal taxis) are available at the north depot in Catemaco, but you will have to walk the road to the beach. There is no bus service.
