| The "Poza de los Enanos" is located about 200 feet north of the docks of the village of Sontecomapan in Catemaco, Veracruz. The Poza is a small spring fed swimming hole surrounded by mature vegetation and forms a canal leading to Laguna Sontecomapan. The name translates to Spring of the Dwarfs, which sounds romantic, till the origin of the name is heard. The Poza is very shallow and absolutely clear but the water´s reflexivity shortens the legs of bathers, turning them into visual dwarfs. The site has become a very popular stopover for tourbuses and as a consequence numerous food stalls have been installed. During their season, oysters on the halfshell are shucked by the thousands There´s a restaurant right above the spring which is a nice place to watch the kids dive off trees and try their seafood soup (sopa de mariscos). |
