The largest cities are the county seat of Catemaco city with 26,141 inhabitants (2005), followed by
Sontecomapan with 2,374, La Victoria with 1,804  and another 10 towns with more than 500 people.

The population is mostly mestizo, with less than 500 known native language speakers, and less than 30+/-
resident foreigners.
