Suradas are very strong winds blowing in from the south that usually smack Catemaco during the spring.
Unusually they can happen anytime of the year and can be as ferocious as any tropical storm.

I first arrived in Catemaco to stay in late November and by early January I was ready to head for warmer
coasts, ready to head for warmer coasts, ready to head for warmer coasts, because a progression of
Nortes (stormy north winds and low temperatures) made my stay miserable.

When the first Surada hit, I literally danced on the Malecon with Frank Sinatra blasting "Summerwind".

Typically Suradas cause little damage, aside from trimming some trees, sheet metal roofing and sinking a
few boats.

The local fun is to watch the monkey boat tour operators hauling their boats out of the water in front of a
Surada.

These photos are from  the first storm in 2010, which  "unfortunately" was not very photogenic in a
catastophic sense.

Anyway, this time, my Popoluca hid my Sinatra tape, and I lacked the rhythm to dance on the Malecon.
