Mecayapan
Mecayapan is a municipio along the Gulf of Mexico and the highlands of the Sierra de Santa Marta in southeast Veracruz in east central Mexico.. The name Mecayapan has different interpretations in Nahuatl, including "stream of the Macaya tree" or river of trinkets". The almost 31? km of gulf coast are almost unoccupied and totally unexploited. Almost all of the municipio is integrated with the Los Tuxtlas Biosphere. Main access is via a paved road from Chinameca, near Acayucan. A new road, connecting the municipio to Soteapan has now been built.

Some beaches near Huatzuntlan attract visitors from the south of Veraruz during hot days. The balnearios Huazuntlán, Tonalapa, Naranjo, Cerro de la Palma, also cater to mainly Veracruz visitors. Alighthouse in Perla del Golfo is worth a visit, otherwise there is no tourism in the municipality. You can visit the northeastern Gulf Coast by hiring a boat in Sontecomapan (about 1500 pesos). I know of two hotels near Huazuntlán, and rooms for rent in Perla del Golfo. Most larger communities have one or more very basic restaurants.
